Southeast Regional Conference
By Joey Jarrell, Co-Chair, AEE Southeast Region
The Southeast Regional Conference was held April 8th-10th in Chattanooga, Tennessee and perhaps went further to build connections than any other regional conference in recent memory. Chattanooga, while a city teeming with amazing experiential educators, had absolutely no AEE presence until the conference. In the summer of 2010 when we initially toured Chattanooga as a possible host site, most folks we met had never even heard of our organization. Flash forward nine months and hours of conference calls, piles of emails, and plenty of hard work later, we now find ourselves delighted to be part of the great network of folks in our industry in the Chattanooga area! Northeast Regional Conference
By Anita Tucker, Chair, AEE Northeast Region
The Northeast Region had a wonderful conference at the Berkshire Outdoor Center in Becket, MA on April 7-10, 2011. With about 250 participants and over 50 different workshops, the weekend was a huge success. In addition, there were many future leaders of AEE (children of current AEE members) in attendance who got to participate in daily facilitated experiential programming provided by camp staff. The family-friendly atmosphere, coupled with engaging key note addresses by Preston Cline and Rob Rubendall, made the weekend one of our region’s best. Many thanks to Chris Ortiz, our 2011 Conference Convener, his host committee, and the tireless service crew for their hard work. Looking forward to next spring’s conference at Camp Woodstock in Woodstock, CT!

Gaining Ground in the International EE Community
Sushil Bhasin, Co-Chair of the AEE International Affiliation Group, is working hard to promote the benefits of AEE membership in India. Speaking to the value of AEE for individuals and organizations alike, Sushil has undertaken an email campaign to reach EE practitioners and invite them to become a part of the growing AEE network with the hopes that at least 20 members from India will attend the 39th Annual International AEE Conference. We look forward to welcoming AEE members from around the world to Jacksonville in November!

The North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) traditionally offers a variety of scholarships to help different audience segments attend the annual conference. NAAEE is now accepting applications for three of these: Affordability, Columbia Teacher, and North Carolina Academic Scholarships. The Web site also lists approximate dates for several others to open applications. In these tough economic times, we’re doing all we can to help support our members with these options. Deadline: May 11, 2011.
