TWS Questionnaire

The Wilderness Society (TWS) has been made aware of instances in which organizations seeking to provide outdoor experiences and environmental education on the National Forests have been unable to do so because of the Forest Service's rules for recreational Special Use permits, and the administration of those rules by particular forests.

In an effort to ensure that all Americans have reasonable access to their National Forests, TWS is conducting research on the Special Use Permit System. As part of this review, we are asking organizations that run outing programs for non-motorized outdoor recreation to tell us about specific instances in which they have been unable to get permission or obtain a permit to take groups to a National Forest. If your organization has tried to access a National Forest and been denied access by the U.S. Forest Service, we ask you to tell us your story by completing this questionnaire.
