Program Review Service

AEE Program Review Service

The AEE program review is designed for organizations that offer experiential programming. The program review consists of a professional assessment of a program’s operations and activities with the goal of improving overall risk management and program quality. AEE accreditation standards are used as the basis for evaluating the organization's practices. The review can be used as the first-step toward AEE accreditation, or it can simply be used by an organization that is interested in gauging whether its practices are meeting applicable industry standards. Both the program review and accreditation utilize a standards-based assessment of your program.

AEE professional reviewers specialize in risk management for adventure programming, but they also represent many other areas of professional practice. AEE has a nation-wide network of reviewers with specialties in all areas related to outdoor program management including: wilderness medicine, policies/procedures and curriculum development, therapeutic programming, and of course, experts in technical activities such as rock-climbing, mountaineering, challenge courses, skiing, and white water kayaking. The program review will assist your organization in identifying actual or potential areas of risk exposure and developing an appropriate plan or response to your circumstances.

Benefits of an AEE Program Review Include

  • Improve your risk management practice
  • Gain an outside perspective on your programming
  • Receive feedback and recommendations from experts in the field
  • Receive a discount if used as a first-step toward accreditation
  • Reduced rates for AEE members
Process
Once you decide to move forward with a program review, the AEE Director of Programs will work with you to develop a Service Agreement, outlining the scope of services, duration, cost, etc. The duration of the service agreement can be as long as necessary to fulfill your objectives.  At a minimum, we typically recommend at least one full day of an on-site review with a half to full day of administrative review of your needs assessment and other program documents such as your staff manual, written policies, curriculum, etc.

The Needs Assessment which simply provides AEE with an overview of your program and desired outcomes for the review.

Cost
The cost of a review will vary depending on the scope of services provided, the length of the agreement and whether your organization is a member of AEE. Members receive a 20% discount!

The contracting organization is also responsible for reimbursement of reasonable expenses, including but not limited to food, lodging and travel expenses incurred by the reviewer(s) in the performance of services.
