90-minute or 3-hour workshops
These workshop spaces are designed as specific and focused topics or can serve as an introduction to a topic.  It is expected that these workshops may not provide a depth of understanding, but serve to open the door to new ideas, new perspectives on existing ideas, or time to explore ideas in a unique way.

DEADLINE: March 5th, 2012

8-hour Professional Development Intensives
These intensive workshops will take place all-day on November 2 during the conference, and are reserved for exploring a topic or theme in-depth, allowing for greater knowledge acquisition and application of skills.  Participants will receive a certificate of attendance, CEU’s, or the possibility of certification in some area (e.g. DISC®, CPR, Ropes Course).  Three models are provided here as an example:
  1. All-day workshop provided by one or more presenters.
  2. Two to three consecutive workshops based on a theme.
  3. Two concurrent workshops based on a theme for different interests or ability levels, combined with a unifying speaker for the whole group.
Please note that these workshops are provided at no extra charge to participants. If you have a workshop for which you would like to charge an extra fee, please offer it as a pre-conference workshop.

Poster Presentations
During the conference, there will be networking time that will also include those who wish to present information on research, programs, and ideas in the form of a poster presentation.  Presenters will prepare their poster in advance and stand next to it in order to answer questions, provide information, and offer follow-up opportunities for those who are interested.

Posters are meant to be informational.  People need to be able to get the information quickly from the poster, so it is suggested that a blend of photos, drawing, graphs, charts, and words be used.  Types can include: A description of an innovative program, an analysis of a problem and how you addressed it, or a report of new research as it relates to experiential education.

Organization of the poster is very important.  For tips on making an effective poster presentation, please see: http://www.fip.org/files/ypg/Project%20Documents/career%20development/CareerDevelopment-PosterPresentations.pdf.

Physical criteria for Poster Presentations:
* Prepared on sturdy material (so that it can sit on an easel)
* No more than 36” x 45”
* Easy to read from 2 meters (6 feet) away

Symposium on Experiential Education Research (SEER)

SEER provides a structured forum for the exchange of research-focused concepts. It features several invited commentaries by noted researchers and scholars, as well as a chance for presenter/audience dialogue and feedback.  Abstracts describing new empirical and conceptual research in the fields of experiential education are now being solicited for the 12th Annual Symposium for Experiential Education Research (SEER).  SEER Abstracts are published every March in the 3rd issue of each volume of the Journal of Experiential Education.

Pre-Conference Workshops
Preconference workshops and activities are designed to provide individuals with an opportunity to enhance their Conference experience.  These workshops take place prior to the start of the conference, and are in-depth workshops and activities that provide an expanded opportunity for professional development and connection with those of similar interest.  Pre-conference workshops are generally 1-3 days long, often “fee-based”, and provided by AEE’s Profession-Based and Affiliation Groups, as well as other individuals and organizations.
