1-day Workshop in Chicago: Mike Gass
WORKSHOP:
Mike Gass at OMNI Youth Services, Chicago, IL, April 27, 2012
101 experiential techniques for counselors and therapists

Target audiences:
  • Counselors/Therapists operating in traditional settings
  • Therapists working in non-traditional settings
  • Teachers of therapeutic techniques to potential therapists

DESCRIPTION:

Good therapists are always looking for additional therapeutic techniques to improve their effectiveness in delivering treatment and creating positive client change. Often times therapists are not looking for additional information, but rather more effective methods for delivery of therapeutic messages and techniques. Often times traditional therapeutic approaches don't work for clients because of different learning styles, increased levels of resistance, lack of input from clients, and the ability to reach appropriate levels of psychological depth and change.

The purpose of this workshop is to provide informative methods of enriching therapeutic technique through the use of experiential methodology. Rather than just “talking the talk” part of therapy, this workshop will provide methods of “walking the talk” to enrich therapeutic techniques and assist clients in reaching their therapeutic objectives more effectively. Examples of therapeutic techniques enriched through experiential methods include: alliances, alignment, amplification, asset building, conflict, escalation, diffusing, conflictingworldviews, coalitions, boundaries, change processes, investment, collusion, hierarchy, double binds, emotional cutoff, enactment, equafinality, homeostasis, joining, power, perspective building, reframing, rules, scapegoating, transfer, triangulation, symmetry, etc. Along with the experiential learning and reflection on these methods will be the theoretical background, rationale, models, case studies, and contraindications for suchtechniques. Participants will leave the workshop with techniques they can use in their next client session.
