Journal of Experiential Education (JEE) 

The Journal of Experiential Education (JEE) is a peer-reviewed, scholarly journal presenting a diverse range of articles in subject areas such as outdoor adventure programming, service learning, environmental education, therapeutic applications, research and theory, the creative arts, and much more.  
     The JEE is an invaluable reference tool for anyone involved in experiential education, and a must for your library, school, or organization's collection.  It is published three times a year (November, March and July) and is mailed to all AEE members as one of their membership benefits. 
    
One subscription to JEE is FREE with each Student, Individual, Family or Organizational Membership and extra member subscriptions are available for $40-USA, $46-Canada and Mexico, $55-Overseas. Institutional and Accredited Members receive two copies of the JEE as part of their annual member dues.
     Nonmember individuals can purchase a one-year subscription (three issues) for $100, plus shipping and handling.

Article Abstracts

For abstracts of JEE articles from 1988-present: ERIC Advanced Search Web site
The Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC) is a federally funded national information system that provides a variety of services and products on a broad range of education-related issues. The ERIC database is the world's largest source of education information and contains more than one million abstracts of documents and journal articles. Articles are not available for purchase through ERIC. (ERIC refers people to Ingenta for article purchase. See below.)
    
When you go to the Web site, (1) In the "Term 1 Field" type: Journal of Experiential Education, and (2) In the "Search By Field," choose the pulldown: Journal Citation. From the resulting list, click on the title you are interested in, and the abstract will appear.

Individual JEE Article Reproduction
Current and back issues of JEE are available for purchase ($35) through AEE's eStore, as can individual articles ($10/copy).

Online search and document services through which individual JEE articles can be obtained:

  • Full-text articles and abstracts from the Journal of Experiential Education are available through ProQuest. ProQuest is available at 100 percent of academic libraries, 85 percent of universities, and through many public libraries. Through ProQuest, abstracted and full-text content from May 1, 1998 through the current issue is available electronically. Articles published between the spring of 1978 and April 1998 are available in microform format.   • On-line full-text articles from 2001 on are available via EBSCO to EBSCO institutional subscribers for free. Most libraries subscribe to EBSCO.
  • Abstracts of articles from 1988 through 2004 are available through the Education Resources Information Center (ERIC) database. Articles are not available for purchase through ERIC. Go to: http://www.eric.ed.gov/ERICWebPortal/Home.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=advanced.
  • Ingenta has JEE articles dating from 1988-2000. You may conduct online database searches on particular topics and receive reproductions of articles for a fee ($10-$12 per article). Articles may be purchased online and can be delivered by fax or desktop delivery in pdf or html format.   • To find JEE articles via the Ingenta web site:
    Go to http://www.ingenta.com
    From the home page, in the main search area, click "advanced search" and then fill in the information for your search:
    -In the "Search for" box: type the name of the article (if you know it-otherwise leave blank) without quotation marks;
    -In the "in" box: you choose fax/ariel articles (online not available);
    -In the "Publication Title" box: Journal of Experiential Education;
    -Mark the "Words in Title" button, then fill in any other pertinent information for your search (volume, year or date range if you know them) and click "search."

  • To request permission to copy articles from the Journal of Experiential Education or other AEE books or publications, email the AEE Publications Manager (publications@aee.org), or call 303-440-8844, ext. 15 for a permission application form, referencing the issue's volume and number, and specifying usage (quantities of copies and purpose). We will review your request and notify you promptly whether permission has been granted or denied. If permission is denied, then you will have the option of purchasing copies of the articles/issues/texts.
