Getting to Northern Illinois University
The three closest airports are Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD), Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW), and the Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD). Northern Illinois University is located in DeKalb, Illinois.

From O’Hare (ORD)
Take I-190 east to I-294 south to exit 31A. Take I-88 to the DeKalb South Annie Glidden Road exit. Take Annie Glidden Road until you reach campus.

From Midway (MDW)
Take I-55 south in Stickney from South Cicero Avenue. Take exit 277A for I-294 north. Take exit 29 for I-88 west. Take I-88 to the DeKalb South Annie Glidden Road exit. Take Annie Glidden Road until you reach campus.

From Rockford (RFD)
Take US-20 east/Highway 20 east. Take the US-51/I-39 exit. Take exit 99 for IL-38. Take IL-38 east until you reach campus.

Public transportation from the airports to DeKalb is limited. DeKalb is a 45 to 60-minute drive from all the airports. Lyft, Uber, carpooling, or renting a car is recommended. If you need help finding a way from the airports to DeKalb, please contact Patrick McMillion at [email protected].

We have reserved a block of rooms in the Hotel at the Holmes Student Center right on campus at a rate of $79.00/night (plus tax) single or double occupancy. This block will be held until June 6th. To reserve a room, please contact the hotel at 815-753-1444 and say that you are with the Therapeutic Adventure Professionals Group.                                                              

You may also camp for free on the Adventure Works property. Please note that we have neighbors, so noise would need to be kept to a minimum after 9pm. There are also no amenities. The property is about an 8-minute drive from campus. Contact Patrick at Adventure Works at [email protected].

Parking on Campus
Please use the visitor lot prior to Saturday. The Visitor Lot is located at the end of Carroll Avenue on the west side of the street off of Route 38/Lincoln Highway. Monday through Friday from 7am to 5pm the cost is $5.00/day. All parking in all lots on campus is free beginning 5pm on Friday night until 7am Monday morning.
