2 Main Volunteer Categories:

1. Team Lead:

This duty includes being in charge of a particular area with support from a committee of volunteers as well as oversight by the host committee and the AEE staff.

  • Time Commitment: Approx. 8-15hrs/month from March- December (may fluctuate)

    • 1 Team Lead Meeting/Month (may increase frequency of meetings in September-November depending on needs)

    • 1 Team Member Meeting/Month  (may increase frequency of meetings in September-November depending on needs)


2. Team Member:

This duty includes supporting a particular area with oversight and direction from the team lead, host committee, and the AEE staff.

  • Time Commitment: Approx. 3-10hrs/month from March-December (may fluctuate)

  • 1 Team Member Meeting/Month  (may increase frequency of meetings in September-November depending on needs)



AEE relies on the talents and energy of many volunteers. This is a member-driven organization with volunteers integral to the planning and conduct of all programs and activities. You can help advance experiential education, provide a meaningful service to your friends and colleagues and develop new skills in yourself.

Overview of Team Categories Offered:

*Each team will have 1-2 team leads and 5-6 volunteer committee members


Marketing - getting the word out about the conference to different communities and assisting in creating marketing pieces, etc.

Socials - coordinating the parties and other social events at the conference, etc.

Registration - creating an easy process for registration during the conference and working on name tags, etc.

Auctions - collecting items for the silent auction, creating hype around the auction, tracking items, setting it up and ensuring folks get their items, etc.

Sustainability - researching and implementing best practices for a sustainable conference, etc.

Evaluations - reviewing evaluation process and making recommendations for changes, creating/reusing existing system, promoting at the conference, etc.

Sponsorships/Exhibitors - finding new exhibitors/sponsors relevant to our industry, working with previous exhibitors, tracking, ensuring the exhibitors/sponsors have what they need (& what they were promised!) at the conference, etc.

Service Crew/Volunteer Management  - working with members, students and others who have volunteered their time to make the conference run smoothly, etc.

Education  - working on pre-conference/conference workshops, overseeing proposals/selection process, etc.

Awards & Scholarships  - overseeing award/scholarship nomination & selection process, etc.

Symposium on Experiential Education Research (SEER)  - working on symposium for experiential education research, etc.

Kidference  - helping promote, create and run a portion of the conference for kids of our attendees, etc.

Conference App/Brochure - researching possible platforms and apps to be used, inputting content and promoting the app prior to the conference. Assisting in the creation of the printed conference brochure, etc.
