Description:

Bring your hiking boots! In this experiential workshop, participants will engage in a hiking therapy group session on the trail as they learn how to facilitate therapeutic hiking groups. This workshop is aimed toward therapists, but may be useful for other professionals who wish to enhance a group’s connection with the natural world or implement experiential practices within a group. Come prepared to hike rain or shine, engage in experiential learning, and learn best practices for this unique type of group therapy. The session will take place on the forested trails surrounding the YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly.

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will:
1. Experience participation in a hiking therapy group
2. Learn 2-3 interventions that can be used in the context of a hiking therapy group
3. Articulate a rationale for incorporating hiking therapy into their practice or workplace
4. Understand 5 considerations regarding setting up and running a hiking therapy group
