Professional Bio

Steve Sassaman, PhD is an experiential educator and researcher with over fifteen years of experience ranging from residential summer camps to collegiate recreation programs. He serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor and Outdoor Recreation Program Director at Arizona State University's School of Community Resources and Development. Steve's research centers on fostering interdependence through healthy engagement with our more-than-human kin.

Steve has completed a Doctor of Philosophy in Sustainability Education and a Graduate Certificate in Nature-Based Counseling at Prescott College. He is currently working on several mixed-methods research projects related to connection to nature, wellness, and social influences. He teaches undergraduate coursework related to adventure education, outdoor recreation, inclusive recreation, sustainability, and environmental justice. Steve also teaches Adventure- and Nature-Based Therapy Intensive courses as an adjunct instructor with Prescott College.
