The Adventure Education Professionals Pre-Conference is a new gathering designed specifically for program leaders, managers, directors, coordinators, and decision-makers working across adventure and outdoor education. Whether you lead a university outdoor program, a K–12 outdoor education program, a guide service, a nonprofit, or a private organization, this pre-conference provides a space to connect with peers facing similar challenges and opportunities.

The field is changing rapidly. Programs are navigating staffing shortages, budget pressures, student mental health concerns, climate-related impacts, evolving participant expectations, and increasing demands to demonstrate value and relevance. Yet there are few opportunities for leaders to come together and discuss these issues beyond the narrow lens of risk management.

This highly interactive pre-conference will combine facilitated discussions, practical workshops, and collaborative problem-solving sessions focused on the future of adventure education. Participants will explore emerging trends, share successful strategies, identify common challenges, and help shape an ongoing professional community within AEE.

No prior knowledge or specialized training is required. This event is designed for both emerging and experienced program leaders who are interested in strengthening their organizations, supporting their staff, and contributing to the future of the profession.

Content will include discussion of organizational challenges, workforce development, program sustainability, mental health, and climate-related impacts on outdoor and experiential education programs.
