Organization Overview
NOLS has been setting the standard in wilderness education since 1965. A nonprofit organization NOLS offers courses in the world's most spectacular outdoor classrooms. NOLS offers more than 65 course types in skill areas including backpacking mountaineering sea kayaking canoeing skiing caving horse-packing and rock climbing. The wilderness becomes the classroom for students ranging in age from 14 to 70 who explore awe-inspiring backcountry in 11 international locations. NOLS focuses on developing leadership and teaching outdoor skills and environmental ethics. When you complete a NOLS course you'll have the skills background and experience necessary to take others comfortably and responsibly into the backcountry. You'll come home an active positive leader with outdoor skills that last a lifetime. Every NOLS course is approved for credit and more than 75 percent of NOLS' college-age students take advantage of this option. Scholarships are available.
