Healing Invisible Wounds: Nature-Based Therapy for Trauma and Operational Stress Injuries
Lindsay Cray
This presentation examines a clinically validated behavioral health intervention known as Core Calm for Nature-Based Therapy (NBT). This is a trauma informed model is shown to be highly effective with reducing stress, improving mood, and addressing PTSD, anxiety, depression and suicidality. Gaining recognition as a key intervention for populations that encounter operational stress injuries and trauma, such as for veterans and emergency service professionals, this approach complements traditional treatments like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and medication. By integrating this nature-immersive practice, providers can help clients sustain a long-term increase in emotional regulation and distress tolerance while aiding veterans in reintegration into civilian life through community-based structure and shared experiential design.

Reimagining Care: A Nature-Based Approach to Decolonizing Restorative Practices
Alice Nelson
This presentation is an invitation to therapists and helping professionals to reimagine their personalized concept of self-care through a Nature-Based lens. This experiential presentation challenges the dominant, individualistic, and commodified narratives of self-care that often perpetuate burnout and disconnection.

Participants will begin by expanding their understanding of self-care beyond human-centered frameworks, observing how the natural world models themes like rest, resilience, and reciprocity. Through guided reflection and discussion, we will identify and deconstruct internalized cultural messages that equate self-worth with productivity and constant giving.

By reconnecting with the body’s innate rhythms and natural cycles, attendees will learn to cultivate sustainable, restorative practices that honor both personal and community well-being. The session emphasizes the healing potential of cueing into our natural rhythms and encourages practitioners to align their self-care with principles of balance, rest, and regeneration.

Participants will leave with practical tools and Nature-inspired exercises they can integrate into their personal and professional lives, supporting a shift from extraction and exhaustion toward grounded, embodied, and authentic forms of care.
