Compost Heroes Live: Using Games to Teach Sustainability Through Experiential Learning
Sustainability can be a challenging topic to teach. Many people understand the issues, but helping them connect those issues to meaningful action is often the harder part.
In this interactive webinar, participants will experience Compost Heroes, an educational card game designed to teach composting, food waste reduction, circular systems, and environmental stewardship through play. Developed through my work in camps, team building, and sustainability education, Compost Heroes uses friendly competition, decision making, and collaboration to create learning experiences that stick.
Participants will play a facilitated online version of the game and explore how experiential learning principles are woven throughout the experience. We will discuss ways to facilitate reflection, connect gameplay to real world sustainability challenges, and help participants identify actions they can take in their own organizations and communities.
This session is ideal for outdoor educators, camp professionals, environmental educators, challenge course practitioners, university staff, facilitators, and anyone interested in using games as a tool for learning and engagement.
Participants will leave with practical facilitation techniques, debrief questions, sustainability education resources, and ideas for incorporating game based learning into their own programs.
Whether you are looking for a new environmental education tool or simply curious about how games can be used to create meaningful learning experiences, this session will provide an opportunity to experience experiential education in action.
