The Association for Experiential Education (AEE) is seeking a visionary, systems-minded, relationship-centered leader to serve as our next Director of Accreditation and Certification.

This is more than a program management role. It is an opportunity to shape the future of professional standards in experiential education—ensuring organizations and practitioners across the globe have clear, inclusive, and meaningful pathways to excellence.

🌍 About the Role

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Accreditation and Certification provides strategic leadership and operational stewardship for AEE’s Accreditation and Certification programs. Grounded in the philosophy of experiential education, this role ensures our standards are rigorous, relevant, accessible, and reflective of our field’s evolving needs.

You will:

  • Set and steward long-term vision and strategy for Accreditation and Certification

  • Partner closely with volunteer councils, subject matter experts, and staff

  • Cultivate inclusive systems that expand participation and representation

  • Strengthen the value, visibility, and sustainability of AEE’s credentialing programs

  • Represent AEE in the broader experiential education community

This is a fully remote position within an internationally distributed organization. We are open to a part-time arrangement for an exceptional candidate.


What You’ll Do

Strategic Leadership & Program Development

  • Advance public awareness and engagement in AEE Accreditation and Certification

  • Develop growth, retention, and revenue strategies

  • Stay informed on emerging issues in experiential education and guide program evolution

  • Identify and support new certification pathways and revenue streams

  • Prepare and manage program budgets

Volunteer & Council Partnership

  • Serve as staff liaison (Ex-officio, non-voting) to both the Accreditation Council and Certification Council

  • Recruit, train, and support diverse volunteer leaders

  • Collaboratively set annual goals and ensure policy adherence

  • Plan and facilitate annual Council meetings

Accreditation Program Management

  • Coordinate and oversee all accreditation site visits

  • Support applicants through the process

  • Maintain relationships with current and prospective accredited programs

  • Develop outreach and marketing strategies to expand participation

Certification Program Management

  • Guide council strategy and program operations

  • Support certification applicants and credential holders

  • Strengthen systems that ensure clarity, rigor, and accessibility

Operations & Engagement

  • Manage records and systems (Novi AMS, Microsoft 365, Google Drive)

  • Provide program metrics and monthly updates

  • Plan webinars and accreditation/certification events

  • Support programming at the AEE International Conference

  • Represent AEE at conferences and partner events


🎯 What We’re Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 5+ years of experience in experiential education programs and philosophy

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace

  • Ability to travel to multi-day conferences annually

  • Comfort working in a fully remote environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in nonprofit or association settings

  • Familiarity with Association Management Systems (AMS), CRM platforms, or Learning Management Systems

  • Demonstrated success managing volunteers

  • Excellent written communication and proofreading skills

  • Experience facilitating meetings or workshops

  • Strong time management and independent work capacity
