Tell us a bit about your work.

At the Academy for Experiential Learning (AEL), I lead the design and delivery of immersive learning programs that emphasize hands-on experiences, reflection, and personal growth. My role involves creating customized team-building activities, leadership development workshops, and experiential modules that cater to diverse groups, including MBA students, corporate teams, and educational institutions.

I collaborate closely with clients to understand their learning objectives and craft engaging interventions that foster communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Additionally, I oversee training sessions that integrate behavioral science principles to help participants develop emotional intelligence, resilience, and effective decision-making.

Beyond program delivery, I contribute to academic research and curriculum development as a Visiting Professor at the Kirloskar Institute of Advanced Management Studies, where I teach courses in Digital Marketing, Entrepreneurship, and Retail Management. My work is centered on bridging theory and practice, ensuring that learners not only gain knowledge but also the skills and mindset needed to thrive in dynamic environments.

Tell us more about yourself!

Hi, I’m Dr. Kotresh Patil. I was born and raised in a small village called Dansal in the northeastern part of Karnataka, India. Growing up there taught me a lot about community, simplicity, and staying connected to my roots. These values still guide me today, even as I live and work in bustling Bangalore.

Professionally, I’m the Director at the Academy for Experiential Learning (AEL) and a Visiting Professor at the Kirloskar Institute of Advanced Management Studies. Over the years, I’ve had the chance to work in many different roles—from leading an innovation center focused on developing local talent to designing and running hands-on learning programs for students and professionals. What really drives me is the belief that the best learning happens when you’re actively involved, not just sitting in a classroom. That’s why I focus on experiential learning and behavioral science—helping people grow through real experiences and reflection.

Outside of work, I’m passionate about mountaineering. Climbing mountains has taught me patience, resilience, and teamwork, which I bring into my teaching and training. I also enjoy exploring how people think and behave, especially when it comes to marketing and decision-making. On a lighter note, I love music and spending time in nature. While I don’t have any pets yet, I’m hoping to welcome a furry friend into my life someday.

Ultimately, I see myself as someone who loves learning—whether it’s through books, experiences, or conversations with others—and I’m committed to helping others grow too. Every day is an opportunity to learn something new and make a positive impact.

What excites you when you think about the future of Experiential Education?
What excites me about the future of Experiential Education is its power to prepare people for real-world challenges by developing skills like problem-solving, collaboration, and adaptability. I’m also excited about how technology—like virtual reality—and hands-on learning can combine to create deeper, more immersive experiences. Ultimately, I believe experiential education will help learners grow not just professionally, but as compassionate, responsible individuals ready for a rapidly changing world.

I have known about the Association for Experiential Education (AEE) for about a year and recently became a member yesterday. What initially drew me to AEE was its strong commitment to advancing experiential learning and connecting professionals who share a passion for hands-on education. Although I’m new to formal membership, I am eager to engage with the community, learn from experienced practitioners, and contribute to the ongoing growth and innovation in the field.
What is the most rewarding part about being a Member of AEE?
The most rewarding part of being a member of AEE is joining a vibrant community of passionate educators, leaders, and learners dedicated to transforming education through real-world experiences. I’m excited about the opportunities to collaborate, share ideas, and access cutting-edge resources that deepen my understanding of experiential learning. Being part of AEE inspires me to grow professionally and make a greater impact in how people learn and develop.
Is there a specific moment or memory you've had with AEE that impacted you?

Since I’m new to AEE membership, I haven’t yet had the chance to attend conferences or workshops, but even in this short time, connecting with such a passionate and diverse community has already been inspiring. I’m looking forward to the opportunities ahead—to learn from experts, build meaningful relationships, and share experiences that will deepen my understanding of experiential education. I’m excited about the moments to come that will undoubtedly shape my journey and broaden my perspective in this dynamic field.

I’m truly excited to be part of the AEE community and look forward to contributing to the growth of experiential education both within the Academy for Experiential Learning (AEL) and beyond. With my background in leadership, behavioral science, and hands-on learning, I hope to bring fresh perspectives and collaborate with fellow members to innovate and elevate the field. I believe that together, we can create powerful learning experiences that transform lives and prepare individuals to thrive in an ever-changing world.
